Drugs

Ok I am back I had to stay under cover for a while, you know after you run away from jail... jk...

We visited the county jail Sunday night with the high school youth group. It was a really good experence for many of us. A lot of the kids had visited it before but it was still good to see what the inmates are going through. We talked to three of the inmates and they shared with us about who they are and why they are in jail and what jail is like and lots of other interesting stuff. It was really touching and sad to here one of the guys had no hope for gettting out of jail because once he gets out the drugs will bring him right back in. This lady named Jamie whos birthday is this week was afraid that she wouldn't be able to quit the drugs. IT is a crazy addiction. She has so much incentive to quit as well and she wants too, but doesn't have the confidence in herself. She has a husband that doesn't use drugs and is sticking with her and two girls and your heart just breaks. It was a good wake up call for me. One of our youth group leaders went to school with one of the guys that ended up sharing with us.

To continue with the jail story one of the kids at school that I just met on Monday actually just got out of this jail a couple of weeks ago. This kid needs a lot of support, he really needs to get out of the house he is in and needs another family to take him in for a year and a half till he is done with school.

It is so sad to see what drugs do to people. We saw many before and after pictures of inmates that used meth: it is so sad and ugly. This is one of the poems that one of the inmates at Allegan County Jail wrote about Meth:

Mike, you are truly a great guy. Your adventures are wonderful. Touchdown Jesus is kind of strange! The jail experience is definitely something that should help youth realize what they are doing.

Bananas are better than drugs, eh? (I had to make it relevant to your post somehow.)
