I went with many of the area churches with our Middle Schoolers to Spring Hill camp this past weekend. It was so much fun to get to know some many more kids and have a blast doing wild and crazy activities. I also heard God speak through a few people this weekend and some of the great things that I and the kids connected to started Saturday Morning when Steve Carter shared about Expressing Our Faith and how we are Living Stones... 1 Peter 2:4 "As you come to him, the living Stone, —rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." This Scripture connects to the Hebrew Scriptures where italkeses aboupilingng up stones to make Ebenezers that people would see and ask masseboth (What happened here?) So if we are being living stones, people should see our lives and ask massaboth (What Happened Here?). Then we will get a chance to say what God has done in our lives.
Another speaker at the retreat spoke about our lives being like jack-a-lanterns. Some times we are at the stage where we only have drown on the side of the pumpkin that says we have God's light in us. LIGHT... Then we might be at the stage where God is cleaning out the crap from our insides so that He can put his light insdie of us... The light might be inside of us (God might have come into our lives) but still we aren't showing that to others... So we need to cut away the sides of our pumpkin to let the light within which is God working in our lives.
The next story that I heard that was from Rob Bell when he talked about the atheist guy who sold his soul on eBay to any Christian for them to choose different churches for him to go to. Brilliant! One of the churches that was chosen for this guy was Mars Hill and Rob Bell got to talk to him before one of the services. The guy had heard it all before, he heard all the lines and persuasive words from others and asked Rob what he was trying to do for people like him that visited. Are you trying to convert me to your beliefs? Rob Bell in one of his God inspired moments started pointed out at different people that were coming into the sanctuary saying... See that family right there? they have been adopting kids from orphanages around the world... See him?... See her you need to here his story... See him you have would be amazed at what he was addicted to... You got to hear this guys story... We don't have to have all the answers andon'tnt have to try to persuade, convert people that's God's job..Wewe are invited tdemonstratete then announce... Show then Tell.
May we all be Living Stones, carved out pumpkins, demonstratorsrs of God's love where people will ask Masseboth (What Happened Here?) Then we can Tell of all that God hahas donein our lives. Love Ya All
